May 2009

May was super fun and very busy! We had a lot of fun playing with our friends this month; testing out the new sand boxes, pools and just playing in the park.

Anaka started out as a secret crawler, silly girl!! She is now fully mobile and into everything. Walking seems to be right around the corner. She is testing her balance and creeping along furniture.

Michelle came to visit us from Tucson, Arizona. We had lots of fun! Maybe next time it wont rain the whole time! Thanks for helping to teach Anaka to mimic!

We visited our CSA farm "Monroe Farms" to pick asparagus, Anaka helped by eating what ever she could get in her mouth. We hung out with farm animals (chickens, sheep, lambs, cows, and one slightly scary alpaca) and visit with some horses that were close to the road. Matthew caught and returned three chickens that escaped the pen. Our bounty was a five gallon bucket and day of family fun!

Anaka learned to wave hello & bye bye! Here is a short video!

Mothers day started with a card from Anaka which she cleverly produced from her jumper-roo command center. I am pretty sure that Daddy gave her the Internet access. Anaka and Mylie gave Mommy an awesome MP3/Video player for their daily walks. We spent the morning at Nana's house preparing brunch for the family and Anaka played with her new toys at Nana's house (walker and swing).

Aunt Nikki came to visit us in early May. She spent most of her time here playing with Anaka, I think that the two of them had fun. We wish that her trip was a bit longer, maybe next time!

Anaka's first tooth arrived on 5/4 and the second was a Mothers day gift!

Cousin Jack and Aunt Elizabeth came for a visit we had a great time playing, shopping and sharing in our new teething past time "pickle sucking".

April 2009

At the end of March Anaka weighed in at 15lbs 6.4oz and 27 inches long. We think that she is close to 17lbs now. April has been a fun month! We went to the zoo with a bunch of our friends, hosted Passover dinner, and introduced Anaka to the Easter Bunny. We moved Anaka’s bedroom so she could have more space and light. Colorado has offered up some fun spring weather, everything from snow to abundant sunny days. We have spent the beautiful days playing in the park or just relax in the yard.

Anaka is trying hard to crawl. She has the moves just not the trust in herself yet. Soon she’ll be on the move (we are not in a rush). She can stand unsupported for a few and is getting good at pulling herself up onto things. Still no teeth and tons of drool! We joke that one day she is going to wake up with a mouth full of teeth. Anaka’s new favorite toy is the Fun with Friends Laugh & Learn Musical Table, she really love the sing-along and the telephone. She has also rekindled her love for the jump-a-roo; bring on the “River Dance”!

The new highchair is a major success; she is now an eating machine! She is even self feeding cheese, fruit and puffs. New tasty foods include: green beans, cauliflower, asparagus, cherries, melons, yogurt, cottage cheese, rice, butternut squash with ginger & cinnamon, sweet potatoes with nutmeg, and pears with rosemary. The girl is an avocado freak and she has a love for apples, they can be mixed with anything.

March 2009

6 months old!!! Can’t believe it, they grow up so fast! Anaka is now 14lbs 9.6oz and 26.5 inches long. She has a mighty reach and is starting to pull herself closer to objects. Oh my, crawling is right around the corner. This month Anaka has experienced a lot of exciting new adventures. She went on her first overnight weekend trip to Keystone, played in this season’s first real snow and went swimming for the first time. She took to swimming like fish. It was so awesome, we had the best time! Oh yah, she was stung by a bee, thankfully she didn’t have an allergic reaction.

Cousin Jack came to the Zoo with us this month and we visited him in the springs. We hosted our first playgroup and had a great turn out! Some of her friends are already on the move, baby proofing is now a must. Her favorite toy this month is the telephone. The v-tech ball, teething binkies and her feet are mighty fun as well. Anaka and her lion are becoming friends, she can stand unsupported for a few while holding onto his handle. Still no teeth and tons of drool, one day hopefully soon! New tasty purees include: Papaya, Mangos, Blueberries, Peaches, Peas, Acorn Squash, Butternut Squash, Zucchini, Cinnamon apples & Cinnamon pears. She did not care for the Zucchini and has fallen in love with cinnamon.

It is so amazing to watch her grow, discover and achieve!
We often wonder what she is thinking.

February 2009

Well the kid is still growing; 14lbs & 4.5oz. Personality is shining on!! We have might have an Opera singer in our future!! Anaka sure knows how to make a lot of noise and big messes! The jump-a-roo is still a favorite daily event but bath time comes close. She has graduated from her infant bath into the big girl bath. She is now the master of drool, everything must go into the mouth. We think that teeth are going to be arriving soon. She has been introduced to a few tasty purees that mommy has made: Carrots, Apples, Avocados, Pears, Sweet Potatoes & Squash. So far she has loved them all. Cousin Jack came over for a visit and we took him to our playgroup for the first time. Hopefully we will see each other more often now that they are a bit more portable. Playgroups are becoming so much fun; all of the babies are starting to interact more and more.

January 2009

The New Year has started off with a bang. Anaka is now 13lbs & 6.4oz and 25.5 inches long. This girl has some long legs thanks to that four month growth spurt. She had her second round of shots and took them like a champ! Thankfully all went well. Her favorite toy this month has been her jump-a-roo, which she has discovered that she has a natural talent for the river dance. This month has been full of firsts. Although we really wanted to hold off on feeding Anaka solids, she left us no choice. It was clear that she was ready. We introduced rice cereal on the 19th and she loved them. We also started to give her prunes for the obvious reasons. She drank from her Sippy cup; it is about time she accepted that there are other sources than mom for a snack! Anaka sat up for the first time without support for a long time. I think that it is safe to say that she has mastered sitting! We took our first trip to the Zoo, can you believe it in January. She fell in love with the Sea Lions and the Giraffe’s. I am sure that February will be just as exciting!

December 2008

Anaka is now 12lbs & 3.2 oz and was told that she has the best skin that our pediatrician has seen on a Colorado baby! This month Anaka was able to meet Santa for the first time, take her first family photos and help pick out her first Christmas tree. Rolling has become a favorite trick. First was tummy to back and by the end of the month she mastered back to front. The back to front often ends in painful shrieks of anger due to the dislike of tummy time. She is sitting with very little support and tries to escape the Bumbo whenever possible. Thankfully she has started to sleep for longer period of time at night, excluding her four month growth spurt. We had a wonderful holiday dinner at our house and are now looking forward to the New Year!

November 2008

Anaka is 11lbs & 6.4oz and 22.5 inches long. We have had a very eventful month. She spends time daily doing baby yoga and she is getting stronger every day. She is sitting while supported and loves to play with her floor gym. Our playgroups are tons of fun; the babies are now starting to recognize each other. In early November we took her to get the first set of shots at our two month doctor’s appointment, which was harder on mom. This was the first month that Matthew had to return to traveling for work. It took some time to get used to daddy being away; thankfully we have a great support team! We celebrated Thanksgiving at Nana Irwin’s house and Anaka wore her first party dress.

October 2008

Anaka is doing great! She is starting to develop a feeding and sleeping schedule. Thank goodness, we finally get sleep blocks of 3 hours at a time!! She is a breastfeeding champ now and will get her first bottle this weekend. Cooing, smiling, soiling record numbers of diapers are among her top achievements this month. She enjoys long naps on mom, being held by anyone and her playtime! She visited her cousin Jack who is just a few weeks younger. We attended her first neighborhood playgroup and celebrated her first holiday Halloween! Anaka dressed up as a "bee happy" bumble bee and was featured on our local 9 news website. WOW did this month fly by, but we are excited for what the next month will bring.
